Engaging Children in Playful Learning Activities

Playing, Learning, and Connecting with Makoonsag Intergenerational Learning Centre

July 16, 2024

The TOYBOX team spent another day out in the community when they visited the Makoonsag Intergenerational Learning Centre. It was a beautiful day, with many of the children playing outside when the TOYBOX team arrived there in the morning.

As a nice break from the heat, children took turns coming inside the centre to do activities with letters and numbers. The children from this centre were keen to show us all skills that they knew! Each child completed the activities a their own pace, but each one left excited for the “next time” they would be able to come learn and play with the TOYBOX team.

Partnerships between TOYBOX and various centres in communities like the Makoonsag Intergenerational Learning Centre showcase the importance of connections that foster learning through play. Spending the morning at this centre was a successful endeavor at promoting not only literacy and numeracy through our activities, but also wellness, community bonding and a sense of togetherness.
