TOYBOX hosts the Winnipeg Foundation's Summer Internship Program Site Visit

Welcome to Hephzibah, working with the Summer Internship Program through the Winnipeg Foundation! As part of this collaboration, TOYBOX hosted a site visit for all the other participating organizations and summer interns

We welcomed them into our new community room, and Hephzibah shared a presentation about the project from a fresh new voice! Participants tried a TOYBOX example gardening activity, to show how the project works.

We then split up into two groups: the interns and the mentors. The student interns reflected on how their early play experiences connect to today’s learning. Many heartwarming stories were shared—from biking with siblings and becoming friends with earthworms, to spending hours playing with model trains. We celebrated how childhood experiences shaped who we are today and influence the way we connect with children we meet through TOYBOX and the Winnipeg Foundation. We hoped this conversation would help the TOYBOX to gain fresh perspectives.

Meanwhile, mentors brainstormed on the topics of Indigenous programs, participation and engagement and funding for their projects. One point that was shared across the board was how food brings people together and offering food at events will always encourage more participation. It was great to hear from different perspectives and share our thoughts together!

To end the meeting, Litty and Nume made a special visit, and we took a group picture outside! A big thanks to everyone who came to support the project and the new faces to see TOYBOX, and we look forward to future collaborations and visits to your organizations!
