Sound Toss
 S-S-S-Sounds

Beginner

Write out letters using paper or chalk. Make a letter sound and have your child toss a soft object (ping pong ball, crumpled paper, sponge, pillow) at the matching letter.

Tip: Use the letters in your child’s name.

Intermediate

Write out letters using paper or chalk. Have your child toss a soft object at each sound you call out.

Tip: Use any letter in the alphabet. Talk about how some letters can make different sounds (eg. C sounds like /k/ in “cat” and like /s/ in “circle”).

Experienced

Write out short letter combinations using paper or chalk. Have your child toss a soft object at the letter combination that matches the sound you call out.

Tip: Use letter combinations like: th, sh, ph, and ch.
