Syllables and Segments
Syllables and Word Segments are the individual sounds that work together to make words. Understanding the connection between letter sounds, syllables, and words helps to develop reading skills.
Syllables can be thought of as can be thought of as the individual parts of a word that are pronounced when speaking.
In most cases, the number of English vowels in a word (a, e, i, o, u, and sometimes y) matches the number of syllables in that word.
You can emphasize the syllables in a word by jumping or clapping each time you say each part of the word.

For example, the word telephone has three syllables
Word segments are the individual sounds that make up a word. You can break words into their individual letter sounds by jumping or clapping each time you say a letter sound.
