Multiplication as Repeated Addition
Multiplication can be described as repeated addition because it involves grouping one number multiple times. ​Have fun grouping food items, toys, and other objects to show the relationship between addition and multiplication!
For example, 3 groups of 4 balloons makes a total of 12 balloons.
This can be represented by the number sentences 4+4+4 and 3×4.
Similarly, 4 groups of 3 bears also makes a total of 12.
This can be represented by the number sentences 3+3+3+3 and 4×3.
