 Hot n’ Cold
Let’s Talk About Temperature!

Beginner

Discuss where your child would encounter different temperatures. Use a thermometer or a diagram of a thermometer to visualize where these items may be in relation to each other.

Tip: Think about things like the weather, temperature of their food.

Intermediate

Discuss 0°c as a freezing point. Have your child place examples of items with different temperatures on the thermometer.

Tip:  Examples such as boiling, freezing, and room temperature water.  Encourage your child to recognize when items would be above or below 0°c on the thermometer.

Experienced

Compare temperatures on a thermometer to one another using language such as hotter than or colder than.

Tip: Look up actual temperatures of items, place them on the thermometer, and talk about them!

Why is this important?

Thinking about temperature as a wide range promotes skills to think about how it relates to our everyday life!
