Pause... and Ask!

Beginner

Pick an illustrated book to read. Point out pictures that relate to the text.

Tip:  If the book mentions an animal, point out the animal in the picture.

Intermediate

Pause halfway through the story and guess what will happen next.

Tip: Ask “What has happened so far in the story?,” “What do you think will come next?”

Experienced

Read a story from start to finish and then summarize it.

Tip: Ask “How did the story end?,” “What was the problem in the story?,” “What were some important parts of the story?”
